On November 10, 2001 S.O.S.L. held its third annual volunteer's luncheon to honor the many hard working people who make the S.O.S.L. outreach possible. This luncheon is a way to show positive support for our volunteers who work unselfishly helping others. The guest speaker was John Culea who is the public relations director for County Supervisor Bill Horn. He presented a
proclamation from Bill Horn recognizing the contribution S.O.S.L. volunteers make to the community.
HONORING THE Survivors of Suicide Loss VOLUNTEERS WHEREAS, Survivors of Suicide Loss (S.O.S.L.) San Diego County is hosting its 3rd Annual S.O.S.L. Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on November 10, 2001; and WHEREAS, S.O.S.L. is a non-profit, nonsectarian organization providing a hotline, nine countywide support groups, and a speakers bureau on the healing and hope for Survivors of Suicide Loss; and WHEREAS, S.O.S.L. began in 1980 when Dorothy Godfrey, Laurel Fadke and Ron Lofgren, an Episcopal Church social worker, decided that Survivors of Suicide Loss had significantly different issues from people whose loved ones had died due to other causes of death, it incorporated in 1994; and WHEREAS, in San Diego County, one person suicides per day on average leaving eight to ten loved ones as survivors, who must cope with a tragedy they can't understand; and WHEREAS, S.O.S.L. provides an outlet for survivors to talk about their feelings, be involved with other survivors, and actively participate in the prevention of suicide through the 24- hour hotline; and WHEREAS, the County of San Diego is committed to recognizing and honoring the many fine individuals throughout the region that dedicate themselves to the betterment of the community , and the volunteers of Survivors of Suicide Loss are such caring and worthy individuals; NOW THEREFORE, 10 News Leadership Award Honors Marie Hane and Dorothy Godfrey
On Thursday January 20, 2000, Marie Hane and Dorothy Godfrey received the KGTV Leadership award. On the 5:00pm news Marie and Dorothy were recognized for their leadership roles with Survivors of Suicide Loss, San Diego County. This honor goes to members of the San Diego community who have shown outstanding leadership that has made a difference in peoples lives. Each week KGTV receives many nominations for this prestigious award. This award is presented to someone who: motivates others, makes sacrifices, benefits others, makes a difference, is a role model, goes beyond the scope of their job, solves problems, goes above the call of duty and is actively involved. 10 News has made a wise choice to honor these two fine
